OBJECTION TO GRANT
COUNCILLOR’S CRITICISM. TREE-PLANTING AT FAIRFIELD. “ I think it is very strange that you should decide at one meeting to do nothing and then at a later meeting, when two members are not present, you pass a vole of £10,” said Mr. PE. Dingle at the meeting of the Waikato County Council yesterday, when questioning the minutes of a recent special meeting of the council recording the decision of the council to have trees planted in Fairfield streets. It had been decided • not to make any vote until a beautifying society had been formed, Mr. Dingle said. He was assured by the chairman, Mr. J. A. Sampson, however, that an undertaking had been given by ratepayers that such a body would be formed, Mr. Sampson adding that had the grant not been made at the last meeting, nothing could have been done this season. The trees had now been purchased and would be planted to-day, Arbor Day. The minutes were finally approved, Mr. Dingle protesting against the voting of money for expenditure In a riding when its member was not present.
