Fear of disturbance's over the proposed partitioning of the country is the cause. American investors are particularly nervous. This has caused a financial crisis. Real estate values have collapsed, and the moveme'nts of imports and exports have been retarded. Foreign merchants and business men, many of whom have lived In Palestine for years, state that they are' ready to leave the country. Small traders are feeling the pinch now that credit terms have been tightened because of the heavy cash withdrawals from banks.
