HOSPITAL TROUBLES.
MATRON READY TO CONTINUE. PROPOSED BOARD MERGER. (By Telegraph—Pr«.» a*«nrfnrinn.i VVAIHI, Wednesday. The troubles of the Walhi Hospital Board In relation to administration, medical appointments, nursing and domestlo staffing have long been In existence and appear to be never ending. Recently the matron owing to a disagreement with the medical superintendent resigned. At last night s meeting of the board fol10Slnf t 0n a conference of members with the matron the' latter in a letter stated that having the confidence of the board she would continue her duties. An urgent telegram was received that evening from the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser, to the effect that ne had. been advised of the possibility of the board considering the question of entering Into an agreement with an assistant medical superintendent for his appointment for three years. As It was the Minister’s intention to recommend the’ union of tiie Walhi, Thames and Coromandel Hospital districts it was particularly desirable that the board should not enter into such an agreement. The chairman explained that thd hoard had already decided to enter into sucli an agreement with the assistant medical superintendent and he, as chairman, had instructed the secretary to prepare the document which awaited the board’s approval that night. Some members considered the board should certainly abide by the Minister’s re'quest. After discussion It was decided to defer the matter of the agreement’ for three inonthg.
