VAIKATO STOCK SALES 123458 MOST LINES SHOW ADVANCEB. PIGS COMMAND HIGH RATES. F«t cattle have appreciated to a marked extent and are on offer In fair numbersThere is little activity In the store cattle section. Dairy cattle still command Interest at unchanged rates. Fat wethers continue to advance but other lines of sheep are steady. Few store sheep are coming forward, but ewes olose to lambing are in keen request. High values rule for all fat pigs. The store pig market shows little movement. It is doubtful if the dairying season has opened under better circumstances for with the abundant supplies of supplementary feed available jluring the winter the dairy herds have tome in in excellent condition. Dairy farmers will be fortunate if the new teason is as favourable as last seaion when spring-like conditions ruled praotioally throughout without the slightest suggestion of a feed shortage at any time. The most gratifying feature of the last dairying season was the substantial increase in the average production of the dairy herds as evidenced by the figures returned by the New Zealand Co-operative Herd Testing Association. If the climatic -conditions are at all favourable it is not altogether too much to expect that a further production inorease will be recorded this year, for the record entries of cull oows at the yards, together with the demand for better class dairy cattle, provide an indication that a considerable Improvement In the production of dairy herds has been possibly effected.
