RECORD SEASON EXPERIENCED
FINE PERFORMANCE OF KING REY. A. WINDER MOST SUCCESSFUL TRAINER. f A. J. JULIAN’S REMUNERATIVE TEAM. (By “MARTIAN.”) The growing importance of Te Rapa as a training centre is further evidenced this season in the outstanding success that has attended horses trained here during the 1936-37 term. They won in stakes a total of £22,176, the most prolific stake earner being King Rey, whose contribution runs into £1630, £175 of which was earned during the time he raced in the colours of the Opotiki sportsman, Mr N. Grafas. Whirling’s £995 was the next best individual effort. Due principally to the success of Sandy Dix in the Great Northern Hurdles, the Winder stable heads the list of successful local trainers, his fourteen earning representatives bringing in a total of £3755. The A. J. Julian establishment, which last season held pride of place, was runner-up this year with £3055 contributed by eight performers, Prince of Orange being the only one who failed to contribute to the stable upkeep. J. F. Tutchen, M. J. Carroll and the Reilly stable, come next in order of merit.
