IMPORTED JERSEYS. BIREB FOR WAIKATO. DISTRICT BREEDERS PROMINENT. JERSEY CHAMPIONS SOLD. (Special Reporter.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Waikato buyers were prominent at the special sale of imported Jersey bulls offered on account of Mr Wallace MacMannies and other leading American Jersey breeders at Auckland to-day. Prices ranged from 100 to 560 gns., the eleven sires submitted averaging 287 gns. under keen competition. The star lots of the offering particularly were in animated request, the aged proved bulls selling at very favourable figures to the vendors. The bulls, which have been in <xuarantlne at Motuihi Island during the past two months following their arrival from America, were brought into the sale ring in beautiful condition and were admired by the largest and most representative benoh of buyers seen at a pedigree stock sale for many years. The sale was conducted by Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Company, with Mr C. E. Robertson in the rostrum and Mr H. P. Toose as sales manager. The top price of the day, 560 gns., was paid by the well-known Waikato breeder, Mr W. S- McEwen, of Cambridge, while another Waikato buyer was Mr W. T. Luxton, of Matangl, who paid 280 gns. for his selection. Mr A. J. Arthur, of Morrinsville, was a buyer at 310 gns., while Mr T. Smith, of Otorohanga, was a final bidder at 400 gns. The sale was rightly described as the most Important event in the history of the Jersey breed in the Dominion, for New Zealand breeders have never before been presented with the opportunity of selecting from a dairy cattle consignment sires of proved breeding ability and representing the leading herds of the Island of Jersey and of America.
