CARPENTERS’ CONDITIONS. A LOW AVERAGE WAGE. (By Telegraph.—Pres* Association.)' WELLINGTON, Monday. Mr Moulton, secretary of the Carpenters and Joiners’ Union, stated to-day that there Is little unemployment among carpenters. Tho Government housing scheme is relieving the position. There still remains the difficulty of a number of married men having to travel to secure work, bringing the problem to these of keeping two homes going. Portion of answers received to 10,000 questionnaires he sent out showed that the annual wage for tradesmen wa* from £152 to £lB2 and the average rental 30s, leaving little for food and clothing.
