Six detectives with field-glasses guard the approaches to the beach at Sandwich when the curly-headed Prince Edward, the elder child of the Duke and Duchess of Kent, goes there with his bucket and spade. All approaches to Bloody Point House, where the Duke and Duchess have left Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra while they visit the Continent, are similarly guarded. The Daily Mirror states that the Duchess telephoned the Home Office before she went abroad and requested that more guards should be provided for the children during her absence. Members of the public are not allowed on the beach at Sandwich Bay while the Royal children are there. Mr Arthur Lines, the proprietor of a coffee stall, is one of the proudest men In England. He has received a letter from thb Duchess of Kent, expressing her thanks, with a cheque for £5 enclosed, for having found her ring after the recent Royal car smash.
