Mr C. A. Barren, M.P. for Hamilton, returned this morning from Wellington.
At a meeting of New Zealand Federation of Cage Bird Clubs in Auckland recently, Mr T. Parker, of Hamilton, was appointed president.
Mr R. J. Mcllroy, M.So., formerly of the staff of Massey College, has been awarded the Chldlam Scholarship for post-graduate research at Birmingham University.
Mr R. G. Maddox, who won the last Otago Dally Times flying scholarship and has received an appointment to the Royal Air Force, Is to leave Dunedin to-morrow for England.
Mr G. Gray, who Is In charge of the Industrial work of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church in India, with headquarters in the Punjab, Is visiting New Zealand on furlough.
Mr 11. H. Sterling. C.M.G., formerly general manager of the New Zealand ‘ railways, and chairman of the Railways Board, has been appointed chairman of directors of the Hume (Cobb River) Electrio Company.
Mr H. C. McQueen, lecturer In education at Auckland University College, will leave shortly to take up the duties of research assistant under the New Zealand Council for Educational Research.
Professor W. A. Sewell, who gav« another extension lecture In Hamilton Inst evening, will be leaving New Zealand on a trip to England on Saturday, and at last evening's meeting the best wishes of those present were conveyed to him by Mr F. A. de la Mare.

• Mr S. I. Rockell, formerly of Hamilton, has been appointed to the staff of the Medical Corps stationed at the Hobsonville Air Base. Prior to his departure from Wellington he wai presented with a travelling rug from the officers and staff of the Medical Corps, a leather suitcase from the members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade, and a set of military hairbrushes from the doctors of Wellington. Mr F. S. Arthur, who for the past i few years has been In charge of the j wool and produce department of the j Dunedin branch of Messrs. Dalgety and Company, Limited, and has been appointed New Zealand representative in London on the International Secreiarial for Wool Publicity and Research, will leave Auckland by the Arawa on Saturday for London. Mr W. Cassels-Brown. superintendent for the Challenge Phosphate company. Limited, left Auckland by the Aurangl to-day for an extensive tour of Great Britain and the Continent, lie expects io fl> across the United States nml lo arrive in London on September 7. later visiting France. Germany, Czechoslovakia. Holland. Belgium and Finland, and returning to New /«aA land ut the cad of the year.
