SUCCESSFUL CONTEST.

BANDS AT TAURANQA. PRESIDENT'S REPORT TO UNION'. Another successful year was reviewed by the president, Mr T. Parleer, in his report to the anitual meeting of the South Auckland Brass Bands Union. held recently. The t 937 contest, held at had standard of the bands competing was higher than at any previous function, l oth from the musical and drill standpoints. Ten hands competed, eight in I lie B grade and two in the C grade The facilities arranged by the Tauranga Contest committee madejt possible for the contest to be carried out successfully. Unfortunately the weather conditions were not altogether satisfactory and the contest, whicli would otherwise have been a financial success, was a loss. During the year Mr J. R. Fow, who had occupied the position of chairman since the inception of the union, found it necessary to tender his resignation owing to the pressure of other duties. Mr Fow look a great interest in the work of the hands and the union and his resignation was received with regret, Mr Parker continued. The financial position of the union was in a satisfactory state. Had the weather for the contest at Tauranga been more congenial, a greater credit balance w-.uid have been shown.
