PROMISE AND PERFORMANCE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —“Independent” lives up to his pen-name, for he deal 3 very faithfully with any and all parties. But through all his letters there seems to me to run one theme —freedom. He apparently hates anything that trenches on the liberty of the individual. His letter regarding the aotlon of the authorities In preventing Presbyterians, farmers, the Social Justice organisation and others from using the B station near Auckland was telling. But he does not stand alone. Some time ago the Hon. P. Fraser made a statement on the matter. The Minister said that the propriety of a State broadcasting station being used by a publio servant for controversial purposes had “received the attention of the Government,” and then lie added: “The Labour Party has always fought for freedom of speech and freedom of expression, and these precious privileges of democracy are safer In the hands of the Government than in those of our political opponents.” I- write simply to cheer "Independent” and to show him that he Is not alone In his love of freedom—at least not in hls expressed love of freedom. Just at present the Government's own love of these previous privileges seems to be taking a strange course.—l am, etc., ADULLAMITE. Hamilton, August 6.
