NO SUITABLE WORK.
UNEMPLOYED AT HAWERA. TRANSFER ELSEWHERE POSSIBLE. HAWERA, Saturday. The acting-Mlnlster of Labour, the Hon. P. G. Webb, conferred with local bodies here and offered on behalf of the Government to provide £2700 to employ 42 on full-time work at £4 weekly for four months. Though 167 unemployed are registered at Hawera it was found that neither the borough nor the county could avail Itself of the Minister’s offer because there was no work suitable for the unemployed. Mr Webb said It might be necessary to draft men to work in other districts. The men, whether married or single, could be sent to work camps in the backblocks, and if they refused to go they ran the risk of b'eing put off sustenance. I HAVE A FAINT COLD——Shakespeare.
