RICCARTON MEETING. TRENCH FIGHT GOES WELL. IRISH COMET SCHOOLED. (By Telegraph.—rress Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday. Although the sky was clear there was a cold southerly wind to make conditions at Rlccarton this morning very unpleasant. 1 The Inside of the trial grass track was In i use and though It was In good order was slow, especially down the straight. Rockingham and Llane opened proceedings, doing hair-a-mile in 54 3-ss. while Miracle ran half-a-mlle up the back in 51 2- ss. Sovereign Lady and Chidden were on terms all through a mile In 1.47 1-5, the first hair taking 525. Persham and Scrap took 1.12 for five furlongs. Counter Flight followed Araboa over six furlongs, each doing 1.21. Sir Hugh, Happy .Night and Bonnie Agnes covered five furlongs In 1.8. Trench Fight’s EfTort. Trench Fight dashed over hair a mile up the back In 49 3-ss. It was a very smart effort. Dictate ran hair a mile In 54 3-5 s going easily. Cottlngham and Red Sun took 1.50 1-5 for a mile, while Settlement and Love Affair dashed down the straight In 51 4-53. I It was a good effort. I Eligy covered a mile in 1.50 2-5, while Royal Llmond and Streamline took 1.51 2-5 for the same distance. Cocksure, Screamer and Solplt did. six furlongs in 1.21. Silver Streak had Mount Val for a mate over seven furlongs In 1.34 2-5. Stromboll, Valantua and Mary Pratt were not hurried In covering five furlongs In 1.11. Concertpltch and Grey Honour were on terms over seven furlongs In 1.34 2-5, time which Rousseau and Swordstick equalled while Blue Tiger and Master Musk took 1.36. ulggleswlck and Rose of Tralee ran seven furlongs in 1.36 4-5, Cape Gabo being eased up after going the first six. Willie Win took 1.2 3 re; six furlong* alone. Mghtform, accompanied by Queen of Song, ran seven furlongs In 1.34 2-5. Pakanul and Golden Dart reeled off six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. it was a good gallop. Waltaka took 1.3 8 for seven furlongs and Bay Duke sprinted hair a mile easily in 53 2-5, Amelita taking 53 3-ss. Grampian and Le Toquet took 1.8 for five furlongs. Davolo and Irish Fiddle were well matched over six furlongs in 1.23 2-5 and Catalogue and Old Surrey were on terms over seven lurlongs in 1.36. Palmyra heat Made Money over five fur- ■ longs In 1.6 2-5 and Bun Fight was slightly better than Mittie In 1.6 1-5. Toreador and The Surgeon set out to Jump six hurdles. The got Into some or the obstacles and Toreador fell at the fifth. A Useful Gallop. Fiord heat Wine Card over six furlongs In 1.20 2-5. It was a userul gallop. Mother-in-law was well clear of Laggard at tihe end or seven rurlong in 1.40 Colombo easily beat Huapal over five furlongs in 1.10. ISocturnus galloped a mile and aquarter at strong three-quarter pace. With the junipers, Golden Lap gave a good display over six hurdles. Good Jumping. Clarion Call and Jolly Beggar were associated la a smart school over six hurdles. Tne pace was solid and both horses went well, Clarion Call proving himself a particularly fast Jumper. Monastic and Corowa went over five hurdles in going round safely at a fair pace. Etliiop and John Charles were mates over six hurdles. They travelled at a last pace and both jumped well, with Ethiop showing a special advantage over most of the obstacles., Maealt'ein and Lucidus went once round over tlie schooling fences. , Lucidas jumped well hut Macaiireln hit the first fence hard and blundered again at the second fence of the double but got 1 round safely. I Steeplechase Schooling. Tne morning’s work was completed with a school over the steeplechase course. 1 Irish Comet ;ind Brigauore went once round starting with a short run into Cutts’ rente which both jumped very well. Brigadoro seemed to outjump Irish Comet over one or two or the obstacles, especially Cults’ the second time, hut Irish Comet was very sale, ii was an excellent exhibition of clean jumping by both horses.
