LABOUR UNREST
AUSTRALIAN COALMINERS. A THREATENED STRIKE. SEVERAL PITS IDLE. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright SYDNEY, August 6. There have been no tangible developments in regard to the threatened strike of coalminers since the compulsory conference early in the week which was adjourned until next Tuesday. All the Broken Hill Proprietary’s pits are Idle, the men having refused to work since the stay-in strikes. Sectional strikes are still in progress in pits elsewhere. The mhie-owners have’ been holding conferences daily on their proposed counter-log to the miners’ claims. The miners’ executive, which also has met frequently since Monday, has decided that, if the owners’ proposals are considered to be unreasonable, work shall cease throughout the State and that coal from Queensland shall be declared “black.” The’ men’s representatives state that all the preparations have been completed for a general stoppage of work at the end of next week in the event of the’ negotiations with the owners collapsing on Tuesday.
