VICIOUS ASSAULT

WOMAN KNOCKED DOWN. ESCAPE OF ASSAILANT. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. A vicious attack was made on a woman at Onehunga last evening. She had alighted from a tram, and after passing a lamp in Spring Street, she was pushed in the back and thrown to the ground and struck on the face, her denture being broken and a cut made in the inside of her mouth, In which it was necessary to make two stitches. Her assailant grasped his victim’s shopping bag, which contained little of value, and made off. The woman did not lose consciousness and managed to stagger home. She could give only a very vague description of the man, for whom the police at once instituted a search, but so far no arrest has been made.
