WHAT ARE THEY WORTH? GARBO’S INSURED FOR £1,000,000. Lord Hewart during a case in the King's Bench Division, London, asked: “How much does a reasonable person deem a beautiful woman should spend saving four front teeth? For mere man it would be about eighteenpence.” The case was one in which a dental surgeon was questioned about a £619 bill for saving a woman’s front teeth. The woman sued another man for damages for injuries In a car crash. Defendant said the dentist's bill was excessiie. A reporter tried to find out from experts just how much a woman’s beauty is worth. Evelyn Laye’s View. Evelyn Laye, blonde and beautiful stage and screen star, said: “If an accident happens to an actor it is just as important as to a woman, as he Is earning his living by his appearance." “But that is the only case I can think of when a man’s face is as valuable as a woman’s.” Stars’ Faces Worth Millions. Film stars’ faces are worth millions. Garbo’s is insured for at least £1,000,000. The British film producer, Walter Mycroft. said: “There is no limit in hard cash to a film actress’s face value. The capital value of a star like Garbo or Dietrich from the start of her career would run into millions.” The Hollywood director, Paul Stein, added: “If you build up a star for the public and they like her, they like her as she is and they expect her lo stay that way. “I would estimate the facial beauty of a Hollywood alar at three to four times her annual salary.”
