DEATH OF CRICKETER.
KNOCKED DOWN BY CAR. CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received August 6, 11 a.m.) LONDON, August 5. George Frederick Foster, of Manchester, was charged in the Bolton Court with the manslaughter of A. E. McDonald, the cricketer. The prosecution said that McDonald was thrown ten to fifteen feet into the air when he was struck by Foste'r’s car, which passed under him. Foster said he did not see MoDonald. Without calling evidence for the defence the magistrate dismissed the charge of manslaughter, deciding that there was not a prima facie case for committal. He also decided that the alternative charges of dangerous driving and driving without due care and attention and without reasonable consideration had not been proved. All the summonses were dismissed. On July 22 a fatal motor accident occurred, the victim being E. A. McDonald, a Victorian cricketer, who has been playing for the Lancashire League. A car McDonald was driving collided with another vehicle near Bolton. It was understood that he got out of his car after swerving into a field and returned to the’ road, where he was knocked down and fatally injured by a third car. McDonald, who was born In Tasmania in 1892 represented Victoria and Australia before going to England under engagement to play in English county cricket.
