BAVOY HOTEL RECEPTION. REPLY TO MR. F. W. DOIDGE. Commenting In The Standard, the official Labour paper, on questions in the newspapers asked by Mr. F. W. Doldge as to who paid for the reception given by the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, to 600 people lu Loudon, Mr. Savage stated: “ I paid for it and my trip cost less than that of any previous Prime Minister. Mr. Doidge ought to know that for his own benefit, and he can take it from me that Fll pay for everything out of my own pocket. “ I have my salary as Prime Minister and I also have an entertainment allowance. I realise that as I am a bachelor, it probably costs less to send me than it would to send a married man. Therefore, I didn’t want to raise the question, hut it has been raised, and there is my answer—that it cost less to send me than any previous Prime Minister. “ Mr. Doidge also wanted to know why I was staying at the Savoy Hotel. Mr. Doidge knows why: T was slaying at the Savoy as the guest, of the British Government, the same as every other Prime Minister who attends an Imperial Conferenee. “ Since Mr. Doidge has asked.” concluded the Prime Minister, ‘‘that Is my answer, and he Is not going to get me Into any argument about it.”
