STORY OF RESCUE. r - attempted hoax on husband. ARREST OF A JANITOR. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel Copyright. (Received August 6, 11.50 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 5. Wilbur Rothar, a Janitor, living with his wife and eight children, has been arrested on a charge of* attempted extortion from Mr Putnam, husband of the missing flier. Rothar last month, while viewing Mrs Putnam land at a local airfield, picked up the aviatrlx’s scarf, which had been blown off by the wind. Rothar used the scarf in an effort to convince Mr Putnam that his wife was still alive, having been rescued by an arms running ship from an island near New Guinea, and he demanded 2000 dollars for her safe return.
