A Darning Hint.
Instead of darning cashmere stockings with woollen mending, which almost immediately wears out again, it is much better to use mercerised threads. For heels and toes, where there is constant hard wear, it will be found greatly to outlast a woollen darn. A Cure For Burns. It is impossible for a woman who has much cooking to do to avoid getting burns and scalds every now and then. The best remedy, bicarbonate of soda, is very close at hand in the kitchen cupboard. The great thing is to act quickly and prevent the burn from blistering. This can he done by making a thick plaster of the soda and water, binding it on the burn, and keeping it moist. This will take all tlie smart away, and in a few hours tlie burn ought to he well. If the skin begins to smart again after the plaster is removed then the cure is not quite complete and another application is required.
