PLUNKET SOCIETY.
TE AWAMUTU BRANCH. NURSING ADVISER PRESENT. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Te Awamutu committee of the Plunket Society was held three days earlier than usual in order that members might have the opportunity of meeting Miss Fitzgibbon, nursing adviser to the Dominion Council of the Plunket Society, who visited the branch. Mrs A. iH. Storey presided at the meeting, there being also present Nurse Davey, Mesdames C. G. Downes, R. Andrew, G. Connal, H. Empson, A. Goodall, G. Hall, W. P. Locke, O. O’Brien, C. W. Rlckit and H. A. Swarbrick, Karltane Nurses McKee, A. Rlckit and N. Storey, and Miss Fitzgibbon. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames S. G. Broadbent, O. M. Coverdale, J. Oliphant. J. C. Self, A. L. Storey and A. C. Whitelaw. The secretary-manager of the Electric Power Board wrote stating that the concession asked for by the society had been granted. The secretary was Instructed to forward a letter of thanks to the board. Correspondence in connection with the forthcoming provincial conference was dealt with, and the secretary reported that it was doubtful whether the Te Awamutu delegate would be able to attend the conference. The box donations, while not reaching the high level of two months back, amounted to the quite satisfactory sum of £3 Is Id. At the close of the routine business the meeting was addressed by Miss Fitzgibbon, who in the course of an hour’s talk gave a most interesting account of her experiences abroad, especially the period spent in charge of the Plunket Society’s exhibit at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. Some time had also been spent in investigating public health and infant welfare work both in Canada and the United States. Particularly interesting was her account of the Truby King work being carried out in England and Australia. A hearty vote of thanks to Miss Fitzgibbon for her kindness in attendng and addressing the meeting brought proceedings to a close, after which Miss Fitzgibbon was taken on a tour of some of the more interesting of the old Maori pas and toattlej fields surrounding Te Awamutu.
