BOXING
WAIKATO CHAMPIONSHIPS TO-MORROW'S ATTRACTION. THE GLASSES REVIEWED. The Hamilton Boxing Association may well be proud of the bill of fare to be put before the public In the Theatre Royal to-morrow afternoon and evening. The entries are very heavy and many of the entrants are travelling a great distance to compete in one of the most important contests In the Dominion, the Waikato championships. On scanning the list of nominations one is Impressed with the quality of the competitors. In the flyweight class Hughie Sheridan (Auckland Gym), will make the pace very warm, but he will have to beat some very smart boys, including E. Adams, of Te Awamutu, to win. Last year’s Waikato feather champion, P. Kelly, evidently fails to make the weight this term, and has to meet boys with a heavier punch in the lightweight class. Among the best of the 9.7 entrants will be .T. Duncan, who possesses South Auckland honours and is the Branton Cup holder. Brian McKay must keep his reputation of New Zealand feather champion intaot on the day to win this class. He is certain to meet strong opposition from such boys as George Todd Don McDonald and Bob O’Brien. The Welterweight Division. Some close contests will be seen In the welterweight class with such olever and hard punchers as W. Purdie, Owen Elliott and Ron Aitkenhead included. In the middleweight class the Te Aroha fighter A. McDonald will have hls time taken up to snatch victory from the hands of the redoubtable Vic Calteaux and E. R. Carter, of Tauranga. The crowd will certainly witness some olever boxing as well as hard punohing in the light heavy division. Among the nominations are Bruce Fisher and Jack Maxim.
