LOCAL OBSERVATIONS. The following local observations on the weather are supplied by Miss Budd, of Messrs Balfour, Irvine and Webster, Limited, Hamilton: Barometer. Wednesday 29.90 Thursday 29.90 Thermometer. Max. Min. Tuesday 57 54 Wednesday 57 40 Mean Temperature, 48.5 deg. The (barometer reads 29.90 and has a rising tendency. Indications are for fair to overcast weather to-day and to-morrow, with lower temperature and winds variable. The Rainfall. Rainfall for 24 hours ended 9 o’clock this morning, .OOin. Rainfall for previous 24 hours, .56in. Rainfall for August to date, .59in. Average rainfall for August, 3.9 Gin. Rainfall for year to date, 28.ilin. Average yearly rainfall, 46.321 n. SPECIAL FORECAST. (By Govt. Meteorologist). The special forecast by the Government Meteorologist covering the WaikatoThames Valley is as follows: Forecast: Moderate to strong northerly winds, reaching gale force in some exposed positions, and backing south-westerlies to-night. Weather clouding over, and rain developing. Temperatures becoming colder. Seas moderate. General Inference: A trough of low pressure with oentres to both north and south is crossing the Dominion, while an intense anticyclone covers Australia and extends on to the Western Tasman Sea.
