ARRIVAL IN AUCKLAND. WARM WELCOME ACCORDED. MATCH WITH MAORI TEAM. (By Telegraph.— truss. Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. A promise that the Australian League team, whioh is visiting Auckland on Its way to England and France, would provide the best games possible in Auckland because the members have been assured they would not be sent home on aocount of injuries was made by the team manager (Mr. Harry Sunderland) at a mayoral reception aooorded the team in the Town Hall this afternoon. The visitors _ were weloomed (by the deputy-major (Hon. B. Martin, MJj.€.), tne president of the New Zealand (League 'Counoil (Mr. J. A. Redwood) and a representative of the Maori race (Rev. P. Panapa). The welcome was heartily endorsed by the officials and supporters of the Auckland Rugby League. (Mr. Panapa, speaking on behalf of the Maori face, expressed great appreciation that the Rugby League had arranged a matoh between the Kangaroos and a Maori team to be played at Auckland. “We are all one people,” he said, “and we appreciate this^courtesy.” After responses by Mr. Sunderland Mr. R. Savage (business manager) and Mr. W. Prigg (captain). Mr Panapa led a Maori haka, to whioh the visitors responded with the aboriginal war-ory. GENEROUS GEBTURE. INVITATION TO TOTTEY. A MESSAGE PROM SYDNEY. (By Telegrapn. —Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Wednesday. A cable was received by the manager of the Kangaroos from Sydney to-day in connection with a invitation sent by members of the team for Fred Tottey, a former New Zealand player, to Join the Aorangi and accompany the tourists at their expense to England. The message stated the Board of Control desired fuller details, but would probably permit Tottey to travel, provided there was no disposition to flout the board’s original decision. The message added that Tottey was elated at his team-mates’ wonderful generosity, and was preparing to leave for •New Zealand on Thursday.
