SUPERLATIVE BLOOD. “ALMADALE” PEDIGREE JERSEYS. The narae “Almadale" la synonymous with Jersey progress In the Dominion for It has played no small part in building up of the reputation of the breed. The “ Almadale ” Stud is the property of Mr w. H. Miers, one of the Dominion's best known Jersey breeders, and its record in the show-ring and in the Held would be difficult indeed to surpass. An ideal farm property with abundant shelter and vve JJ“ planned fields, the home of the stud at Rototuna with its splendid pastures supplies one reason for the outstanding success of Almadale ’’ Jerseys. Everyone of the 150 head of stock on the property is a pedigree Jersey, each one a splendid advertisement for Mr Mienbreeding policy. The successes of the Almadale stud in the show-ring would be too innumerable to mention in detail but sufficient it is to state that recent successes at the Auckland and Waikato Shows included five championships, two reserve championships, 15 first prizes, 12 second prizes and three third prizes. A present herd sire is Hose Marie s Duke (imp.) by Acid Duke, son of Nobly Born from Roseland's Rosemary, daughter of Standard of Oaklands, who is a daughter of that great sire, Blondes Golden Oxford. Rose Marie's Duke was imported from America for Mr Miers at great cost, for Mr Miers has spared no expense in bringing his stud to its present very high standard. The •• Almadale ” Stud carries superlative blood, blood which would improve any Jersey stud in the Dominion for under test and in the show-ring it has proved itself for prepotency, production, type and constitution. HOME OF PRODUCTION. “GREENCROFT”JERSEY STUD. Neat and compact, Mr J. Bones’ high-producing farm of 84 acres at Kaipaki is typical of the Waikato’s best farms and a vindication of modern farming methods. The farm carries some 100 head of cattle as well as a small herd of pedigree Tamworths and the healthy condition of the stock provides an admirable indication of the farm management. Trim shelter belts protect the pastures and the stock, the small, well-fenced fields lending themselves to the proper control of the pastures. Everything about tills modern Jersey establishment bears the hallmark of efficiency. As the home of the “Greencroft” Jersey Stud this Kaipaki farm is well known and the outstanding success of the stud in the show ring is substantially backed by high butterfat records. Among the 21 finalists out of a total entry of 170 for the Manawatm £SOO Jersey Oaks, three Greencroft representatives were included, two of which filled Seventh and Eighth places. Mr Bones has always been a firm believer in testing and years of test and selection have made the “Greencroft” Stud one of the highest producing Jersey herds in the Dominion. The herd carries the blood of the famous Cousin Grace family, outstanding for its great dairy ability and superlative type, Cousin Grace being one of the herd matrons and dam of the sensational Junior world record breaker, Qreencroft Golden Grace, C.0.R., 8641 b, as & Junior two-year-old. This record was due principally to the Ideal conditions existing at Mr Bones’ farm, and the many other high production records made on the farm are the direct outcome of the sound management that has evolved a high producing stud of superlative Jerseys. “Greencroft" Jerseys have demonstrated that they breed on and there is no herd in the country that would not be the richer with an infusion of this blood. CHAMPION PEDIGREE JERSEYS. ‘GLENMORE STUD.” To all Jersey breeders there Is no more familiar name than the " Olenmore ” Stud. stud that has won a prominent place among the Dominion's leading pedigree herds through sheer merit of show’ and production performances. Its proprietor, Mr A. Loveloek, the president of the Hamilton Jersey Club, ranks among the country's most progressive Jersey breeders and bis stud of superlative quality Jerseys is a credit to his herd management. The home of the stud Is In Matangi, the property of 109 acres being in splendid pastures and well sheltered by thick hedges. Although Mr Lovelock has been on }'*is property only three y.*ars he has considerably improved it until it is now one of the highest producing farms in the Matangi distriot. The stud itself has been established for 20 years and during that time It lias been successfully represented at the leading shows in the Dominion, an enviable list of championship honours standing to its credit to-day. Rut the reputation of the “Gleninore" Stud does not merely hinge on its outstanding show-ring successes. For many years Mr Lovelock has followed a policy of consistent testing and at the present lime practically the entire herd is under C.O.R. or u.lf.T. lest. One of the stud s beautiful matrons, olenmore Baroness Y. 11.0.; whose photo appears in this issue, has a CO.R. of 604 lb. faf in 365 days. This record like other records made by ** Glenmore " Jerseys was pot up under heavy storking conditions, 160 head of stock being carried on the 109 acres.
