CLAIMS SHARE IN FORTUNE. RACE AGAINST TIME. Miss Helena Myrtle Stephens will leave Sydney by the Jervis Bay to claim a share of a million-dollars New York estate, left by Ida Walsh Wood, formerly proprietress of the New York "News,” says a Sydney paper. Miss Stephens will first visit relatives In County Wexford, Irish Free State, hoping to gather there documentary evidence supporting her olaim. "It is a race against time,” she explained. “Before I left my home in New Zealand. I was Informed by New York lawyers that disposal of the estate was shortly to be considered by the court. If I do not soon lodge a validated claim, it may -be that I will be cut out of the fortune.” Miss Stephens said that her father was cousin to Mrs Wood. "Mrs Wood's own children died, and when the size of her estate became known everyone named Wood in Ireland put in a claim, Just on the offchance,” she added. "An American newspaper said that the New Zealand descendants still had a chance.” Ida Walsh Wood died in New York In 1931, in a cheap tenement house. She was almost blind and deaf.
