DEAD SEA PHENOMENON.
GRAPHIC LANTERN SLIDEB. LECTURE BY DR. C. J. ROLLS., Some of the finest lantern slides ever shown in Hamilton were a feature of the lecture “ The Scenic Beauties and Historic Realities of Palestine,”, given at the Baptist Church last evening by Dr. C. J. Rolls, noted theologist. Scenes of many famous places in the Holy Land were reproduced in natural colour, one of the finest being the view taken from a point on the Dead Sea. Here a unique phenomenon is produced by the reflection of the sun’s rays on evaporated moisture ' from the Dead Sea, which Is 1292 feet below the level of the Mediterranean. The refraction of light produced is not projected into the sky as with an ordinary rainbow but falls in the depression of the Dead Sea. Throughout the day a remarkable change in colour is produced, varying from bright red to deep blue. Nowhere in the world can this sight be equalled, considered Dr. Rolls.
