order in Edinburgh, delivered an outspoken sermon on the evils of a divided Church. He said: ‘‘Even the ordinary lay folk are more ready to come together in the face of the recurrence of paganism than the leaders of. ecclesiastical organisations, which are intent on maintaining their traditions and keeping their organisations in working order. “How can the Church call on men to worship one God If It Is calling them to rival shrines?”
