The compulsory conference between the coalmine owners and the miners’ representatives has not reached a settlement yet. The miners in the Broken Hill Proprietary’s collieries did not resume work to-day a 9 they had agreed to do yesterday, and with the men in some of the other pits they are adopting a defiant attitude. The conference met again this evening and then adjourned until Tuesday to enable the mine-owners to consult Individual proprietors upon the wage proposals of the miners’ delegates. These Include the restoration of 10 per cent, of the 12i per cent, cut Imposed In 1930 and an increase of 5 per cent, in the wages of “ off hands.” The miners’ council Is to meet tomorrow to decide whether the sectional strikes now In operation at the Broken Hill and other pits shall be. dis - continued pending the outcome of the present negotiations. It Is reliably reported that the miners’ council will also complete \ a plan for a general strike In the event of the collapse of the negoW tlatlons. STAY-IN STRIKE ENDS. ADELAIDE GAS WORKERS.
