ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.
MINING MISHAPS. TWO MEN INJURED. WAIHI, Tuesday. Mr Richard Gardiner, a young married man, had the ends of his fingers and thumb of his right hand shattered when a detonator he was tapping in the Martha Mine exploded. The ■shattered parts were amputated. WESTPORT, Tuesday. Mr John Jack (49), a miner, married, was caught in a fall of coal in the Westport-Stockton Mine, and sustained fractures of the spine and pelvis, and Internal Injuries. His condition is serious. MAORI BOY DROWNED. (By Tel^irrspn. —promt Association.* CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. George Ropata (5), a son of Mr and Mrs M. Ropata, was drowned in a creek running through a pa at Little River this afternoon. The boy bowled a motor tyre along a log crossing the river and followed it. He fell into 10ft of water. Another boy ran for help, which arrived too late. BEAMAN DROWNED. FALL OFF A FREIGHTER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Tuesday. This morning as the Port Waikato was coming into port a seaman named R. H. Watt (31), a native of Auckland, fell overboard and was drowned. BODY ON BEACH. NOT YET IDENTIFIED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Wednesday. A body of a man, about 50, found on the shore near the Napier breakwater this morning, has not yet been identified, although the discovery is being linked in police investigations with the disappearance of a seaman early this week.
