ALLEGATIONS AQAINBT YOUTH. OPPOSITION TO BAIL. FURTHER CHARGES PENDING. Following an additional series of car conversions in Hamilton during the past week a further charge was brought against the youth, aged 17, who appeared in the Hamilton Polloe Court recently to face 15 charges of converting motor-cars, by Detective A. J. White before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., In the Police Court, Hamilton, today. The youth was remanded on bail until Monday next as three additional charges are pending. The charge was that of converting a car valued at £275, the property of Cyril Waddell, of Hamilton. The alleged offence was committed last Wednesday. "Your Worship will remember that this lad came before you early last month charged with a series of car conversions and he was referred to the Children’s Court. He has not yet been dealt with. Since that time, while released on ball, he has converted four more cars," said Detective White in expressing doubt whether the further charge would he dealt with by the Children’s Court. The detective objected to accused being released on ball. He recalled that accused was at present on probation pending the jurisdiction of the Children's Court. A condition of the probation was that accused be prohibited from going out after 6 p.m. unless accompanied by a parent. Mr White said this condition had been complied with but accused had committed more offences In the day time, mainly during his lunch hour. "He needs to be tied up with string or he will go on with this business," added Mr White. The magistrate held that that was not sufficient cause to refuse ball, •which was granted in the sum of £l5O.
