TALLOW, HEMP & FRUIT. kTHE ENGLISH MARKETS. WELLINGTON, Tue-sday. The Department of Agrloulture has received the following cablegram, dated July 30, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: Tallow. The market continues quiet on spot with prices unchanged. Hemp.—Manila: The market is dull and easier, buyers holding back. “ K ” grade for July-September and AugustDctober shipments quoted, sellers 15s. Sisal. —The market is quiet and steadier at the close. June-August shipments sold £27 10s; August-Octo-ber, £27 7s 6d to £27 15s. New Zealand: The market Is nominal, no firsthand sales reported. Apples.—There Is fair demand but no Improvement In prices. Granny Smith, 12s to 14s; Dougherty, 11s to 13s; Rokewood, Yates, 9s to 11s; Tasma, 9s to 10s 6d; Sturmer, Newiown Pippin and Rome Beauty, 9s to 10s. Peas. —Maples: The demand is slow. “A ” grade Tasmanian afloat sold 55s to 565; values (word mutilated), September and October shipments, 56s to 575. No. 1 New Zealand for August-September shipments sold recently 545. Blues: There was a slightly better demand early In the month. “A ” grade Tasmanian sold for July-August shipments £l2. TE PUKE HORBE FAIR. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering' Company, Ltd., report having held their annual horse fair at Te Puke on Friday. About 140 horses of all classes were offered for sale and there was a good attendance of buyers, a number being present from Auckland, Waikato and Taranaki. The horses on the whole were disappointing from a quality point of view, and bidding was somewhat restricted, especially on lighter sorts. However, the few heavier and better qualitiy horses sold freely at satisfactory prices. Two and three year half draughts sold from £lB to £2B 10s; lighter, £9 5s to £ls; yearlings to £l7 ss; foals to £9 ss; broken—good quality draughts, £35 to £45 10s; lighter, £2O to £34 10s; aged horses, £lO to £l6; young broken hacks, £lO 10s to £l7; older hacks, £2 to £8 10s.
