TELEGRAPHIC CHESS. HAMILTON BEATS GISBORNE. The final evening’s play in the telegraphic match between the Hamilton and Gisborne Chess Clubs was lie id on Saturday night,. Gisborne was challenging for the Blackburn Cup but failed to lift it. Hamilton again proving too strong. The gup was won toy the Hamilton Club in 1935 and was successfully defended in 1936 and again on Saturday. Two unfinished games were sent to Wellington for adjudication but the decision cannot affect the result. Particulars of the finished games are as follows:—Hamilton players being mentioned first:— B. Fenton drew with C. P. Belton. F. Bullock drew with A. C. Twvford. R. Mears lost to F. T. Yenning, K. Liddell beat R. J. Thompson. S. L. Paterson drew with P. 11. Rhodes. E. J. Stevenson beat P. Fischback. T. J. Shaw drew with 11. Ritchie, G. Roves beat. G. Harris. J. F. Strang drew with C. Blackburn. F. Gundrv beat C. H Smythe. W. Fink lost lo 11. A. Jenner. E. J. Jones beat C. A. Lawn. A. R. Staines lost to A. Aitken. only the first. 12 boards count for Ihe cup. Tiie two in the hands of the judges were played by A. H. Tompkins against M. Robinson and F. Hirst against L. I. Meredith.
