PREPARING FOR WORST.
ACTIVITY BY JAPAN. TROOP TRAINS BOMBED. RAILWAY STATION FIRED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. TOKIO, July 31. Japanese airmen, bombed four Chinese troop trains and set fire to the Paotlng railway station. The pilots of Japanese scouting aeroplanes report that 25 Chinese troop trains are travelling north on the Hankow-Peklng and Tientsin-Pu-kow railways. The Japanese War Office’s casualty lists show that in the fighting on Thursday and Friday 78 men were killed and 197 wounded. The Nichi Nlchl Shlmbun says the Government is appropriating an additional £18,000,000 to deal with the Chinese situation. The Minister of War. General Suglyama, says Japan is making very full preparations for the worst. The Government is permitting foreign vessels to participate in coastal trade In order to alleviate the shortage of cargo space due to the operations In China.
