PROMINENT PEOPLE ARRESTED. PURGE IN RUSSIA. LONDON, August 1. ** The Moscow correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says that Bela Kun, former Communist Dictator of Hungary and recently a member of the Soviet Secret Service, is among* the latest arrested in M. Stalin’s great purge, which the police are still continuing with unprecedented secrecy. They are exploiting the late Maxim Gorki's papers, which were impounded on the day of his death, and other old flies to augment denunciations and confessions. DRAMATIC DISCOVERY. 80,000 CARTRIDGES. Skidding in loose metal near Waikouaiti ftarly yesterday morning, a motor-car driven by Mr Eric Francis White overturned and a passenger, Miss Mona Agnes Kirkwood (21), residing at Waikouaiti, received fatal injuries. The driver escaped with facial injuries.
