HUNTLY BEAT ROVERS. A. HALL OUTSTANDING. EVEN EXCHANGES. Though the standard of football In the game, Huntly Starr v. Claudelands Rovers, played at Seddon Park on Saturday, was higher than for some weeks the game was not outstanding for brilliance on either side. Huntly deserved their win but Rovers were unfortunate in having to field a Junior player in goal and to lose the services of Schonau through injuries. An even first spell ended at 2-all, but in the second half Huntly added a couple of | easy goals and by good defence held their lead. The outstanding player on the field was A. Hall, right back for Huntly, Avho time nnd again turned defence into attack. He was a source of trouble to Rovers throughout the game. W. Marshall was a hard-working forward for the winners, while Fennev was, very safe in goal. Rovers fielded a i promising centre-forward in Stewart I | and his goal was a fine effort. Stewart headed in cleverly from a scramble in front of the goal. It was aot long, hoxvever. before Huntly again went into the lend, Whylie completely beating Rogerson. Huntly-Starr 2 Rovers 1 Huntly continued to attack, a cross by YY\ Marshall nearly found the net. \ corner followed hut from this Rovers came hack to the offensive. It vas only for a short time, however, and Rovers had some anxious moments when a combined Huntly rush to the goal-mouth looked dangerous. Clark defended strenuously to avert what ippeared a certain goal. Hall was just is safe when Rovers attacked but following a good cross by Allsop, Farr pushed the ball home and the spell »nded. Rovers 2 Huntly-Starr 2 A Simple Goal. A simple goal T»y Spiers put Huntly Into the lead shortly after the teams •esumed. Short passing in front of Iho goal found Spiers in possession and ho inadp no mistake with the goalie nut of position. Hall was again conspicuous for solid defence when Rovers carried play to the goalmouth. Huntly scored again when Rogerson carried a corner kick from G. Marshall into the net. Huntly ’• Rovers 2 Wallace received from Allsop in a very handy position hut he made a poor attempt to find the uprights. clear the bar and Hall relieved for Huntly. A fine break by Crabb gave Rovers a splendid opportunity hut Hall once more came to Huntly’s rescue. With Huntly again on the offensive a good opening gave the vanguard a chance but off-side play spoilt the movement. An accurate cross by Wallace found Fenny safe when Rovers rushed the Huntly goal. The custodian was again equal to the occasion when Stewart shot, from Hose In. Rovers held their position in Huntly’s territory and Stewart swung the ball to a *ap hut Farr was off-side From the free-kick Huntly returned play to Rovers’ half. \ long kick downfleld by Hail put Churchill In position for a goal, hut he delayed too Inn* and the defence caught him.
