FRIENDS OF UNDERDOG.

TRIBUTES TO ROYALTY. A BISHOP’S EULOGIUM. (Times Air Mail Service). LONDON, June 2i. A tribute to the King and Queen as “friends of the underdog;,’’ and to the Duke of Windsor for his “magnificent generosity of heart,” is -paid by the Bishop of Chelmsford (Dr. Henry Wilson) in a letter to his diocese, says the Evening Standard.

“Certain newspapers and individuals have taken it upon themselves to lecture the people of this country for what is described as the extravagant and fulsome language which we have used of our Royal family” adds Dr. Wilson. “I think these pompous and portentous writers will find that we are entirely unrepentant. “1 cannot, for the life of me.see why. if we respect and love our King and Queen, we should not tell them so in any way which offers itself. New Ideal of Kingship. “King George V. and Queen Mary created a new ideal of kingship. Not a single good cause which aimed at Ihe uplift, of human life was ever overlooked by these greatest of public servants. “King Edward VITI., both as Prince of Wales and as King, followed their example with magnificent generosity of heart. “And there are no better and truer friends of the underdog than King George VP, and Queen Elizabeth, and, what is more, the poor folks of this country know it. “King 'George VI and Queen Elizabeth can do what no monarch, and, even more emphatically, no dictator in Europe can d,o —they can walk unattended and in perfect safety through the poorest streets in any town in the land. “Indeed, probably the most loyal people in the country are the poor, for they know that the love and service which the King and Queen give to them is entirely disinterested.”
