A stir has been caused in racing circles by the omission of the names of three jockeys from the list of those granted licenses for the new season The most, prominent is Keith Cook and the others are J. M. Coutts and D. 11. Webb. Cook and Coutls say they have no idea why they have been left out. The Sunday Sun says Webb declares the stewards told him he -was not getting sufficient riding. T Jamieson, with 214 wins, was fourth, and G. Price, with 15* wins, was fourteenth.
W. Cook was the leading jockey witli 79 wins and five dead-heats. M. McCarten was second, with 72 wins and five dead-heats, and E MoMenaniin was third, lie having' ridden 04 winners and two dead-heats. ONE RACE ENOUGH. WOTAN’S MELBOURNE CUP. MELBOURNE, August 1 Although they won only one race in Melbourne for the season ended yesterday, Messrs Smith Brothers, of New Zealand, lopped flic list of winning owners, as the race was Hie Melbourne Cup, won hv Wotan.
