The history of the cup is as follows : 1850—America wins Squadron Cup at Cowes. 1857—America’s owners present cup to New York Yacht Club. 1870— British Cambrik challenged and finished eighth. Magic won. 1871 — British Livonia failed to win a race. 1876—Canadian Countess of Dufferln failed in challenge. 1881—Canadian Atlanta was beaten. 1885— Puritan of Boston beat British Genesta. 1886 — Mayflower beat British Galatea. 1887 — Volunteer beat British Thistle. 1893—British Valkyrie 111 lost three to Vigilant. 1895—British Valkyrie 111 lost. 1899—Columbia won three from Shamrock I. 1901 — Columbia won three from Shamrock 11. 1902 — Reliance won three frbm Shamrock 111. 1920—Resolute won three of five from Shamrock IV. 1930—Enterprise won four from Shamrock V. 1934 —Rainbow won four out of six from Endeavour I.
