FARMERS’ FIELD DAY.
GATHERING AT PUTARURU. VALUABLE INSTRUCTION GIVEN. (Special to Times.) PUTARURU. Frtflay. The annual field day or Putaruru Farmers was held yesterday and proved most successful. There was a large gathering- or farmers and members of the Matamata and Putaruru young- farmers’ clubs and pupils from the Putaruru secondary department, Lichfield and Hoddervllle schools. Mr J. Baldwin’s rarm was first visited, where a specially treated swede crop was viewed. Mr C. Dalgleish, Rotorua district Government agricultural adviser, then spoke on the treatment of swede and turnip crops. The party then travelled to Mr K. S. Cox’s property, where Mr Miller (Rotorua) gave a very instructive demonstration or pruning of fruit An enjoyable luncheon was provided at the Crossing Homestead, where Mr H. Woodyear-Sndth announced the winners of the swede crop competition Judged by Mr Raper (Maraetai). These were: Mr E. w. R Leslie, J and 3; Mr C. E. Young. In the afternoon Mr T. Rlake (Hamilton) gave a talk on t'he care or ho.sea, Mr J. Callaghan (Putaruru) demonstrated the handling of dogs and sheep in the yard and field, and Mr Luxor compared the outstanding features of a group of dairy cows. A competition In the Identification of grasses Tor school pupils was won by Colln Pevrcal (Putaruru), with Rod McKinnon (I’u tai ui n • second; luixfleid (Putaruru) and Jim White (equal) were third.
