REGARDED AS GRAVE CRIME. WHOLESALE ARRESTS MADE. DEFIANCE OF THE NAZIS. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. (Received July 31, 11 a.m.) BERLIN, July 30. Forty have been arrested in a drive against former trade union leaders for allegedly reviving union activities in defiance of the Nazi Labour Front. The principal arrest is Scharfschwert, a former leader of the Locomotive Drivers’ Union, -who secretly organised meetings in the guise of convlval gatherings, also published a roneo broadsheet and collected subscriptions, which was a grave crime. The most extensive underground activities are revealed.
