No Romance In Shirley Temple Film. Shirley Temple will, for the first time, be relieved of a grown-up romance interest in “ Heidi." This is a Swiss story, and Shirley gets mature but unromantic support from Jean Hersholt, Violet Kemble Cooper, and Mady Christians. The House Sold Out! The seven-weeks’ Gilbert and Sullivan season at Sadler’s Wells, London, opened with " The Gondoliers.” When the box office opened the first night was sold out within a few hours. Another Girl Singer. Suzanne, a child singer, is M.G.M.'s answer to Deanna Durbin. " B above C ” is -being made into a screenplay for her. Grace Moore’s Next Film. Melvyn Douglas, who scored such a hit in "Theodora Goes Wild,” has been selected as Miss Moore's leading man. Sonja Henie’s Seven-year Contract. Sonja Henie is happy. The youthful Norwegian ice-skating champion of
champions—with lliree Olympic and seven world titles to her credit—has had her Hollywood film contract extended for seven years and has been asked to make two pictures a year. This Is a reward for her performance in her first film, “Girl in a Million.” Sonja is now completing "Thin Ice,” her second film for Darryl Zanuck. When it is finished she will undertake a skating exhibition tour of the United States. witTi the dual object of earning money and making everyone in the country "skating conscious.” In September stic will begin another picture. “ Father Divine ” In Film. The slory of " Father Divine,” American Negro preacher, is being used ns the background for a new M.ii.M. picture. In the film, the revivalist will be white. Leslie Howard as Producer. I Leslie Howard lias announced Hint, if lie can find a suitable player for the ! role, he will not appear in " Bonnie prince Charlie,” hut will confine his activities to producip* the picture.
j M-G-M Suad for £50,000. I Gilda Gray is suing M-G-M for ! £50,000. She claims she was offered a large part in " The Great Ziegfeld on condition that she played a small one in " Rose Marie." She did the "Rose Marie” part, but her scenes were cut out of the final version of " Ttie Great Ziegfeld." She claims £50,000 as compensation for great injury to her professional reputation. Boxers as Film Stars.
