Having at last discovered that Barbara Stanwyck can sing, motion picture producers are apparently going to give her frequent opportunity to do so from now on. Since she made her debut In motion pictures she did not sing a single note until she appeared recently in 14 Banjo On My Knee ” for 20th Century-Fox. Now she Is to sing again, this time In “ His Affair ” In which she co-stars opposite Robert Taylor. Miss Stanwyck cannot explain why it never occurred to film producers to have her sing. Before she went to Hollywood she had been a fthprus girl and then a leading actress In New York. In several stage productions, she was called upon to sing, and she assumed the film talent scouts knew all about that when they gave her a screen test and signed her to a contract. Apparently, however, the screen soouts must have seen her only In straight dramatic roles on the stage, because her assignment to sing in “ Banjo On My Knee ” was the result of an accidental “ discovery of her voice when she chanced to do a hit of Impromptu singing in her own dressing room on the set. Mack Gordon and Harry Revel whose latest work is the score of the musical hit, “ Wake Up and Live." wore assigned to write three special numbers for Barbara In “ His Affair." "His Affair” is not a musical picture. It is a drama based upon a little known episode in American history during the Administration of President McKinley. However, its script provided an apportunity for Barbara Stanwyck to sing, and production chief Darryl f Zanuck. was quick to avail me studio of the chance to put Barbara’s voice on the sound track.
