KING AND QUEEN WELCOME TO BELFAST. -va CITY AND VILLAGES EN FETE. (Official Wireless.) (Received July 29, 12.30 pjn.) RUGBY, July 28. Belfast and the surrounding towns and villages are en fete for the visit of the King and Queen who crossed the Irish channel In the Royal yacht escorted by three cruisers and six destroyers. Nearly 500,000 people enthusiastically • welcomed the Royal visitors when they arrived at Donegal Quay. The visit will last for only one day, but it is filled with processions and ceremonial. The north Irish capital is packed with enthusiastic visitors from all over Ulster. The city stopped work for the visit. A thousand factory hands released from work with a full day’s pay, gave a tremendous greeting to Their Majesties through the whole Royal drive from the quayside to the City Hall. People massed ten to twelve deep on the pavements and in side roads. Windows were thronged and . Hags, handkerchiefs and hats waved above the mass of people. Before entering the City Hall Their Majesties visited the Garden of Remembrance nearby, and also inspected a parade of ex-servicemen and women.
