MEMBERSHIP RISES.
THE NATIONAL PARTY. SPEAKERS WELL RECEIVED. (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) WELLINGTON. Wednesday. A meeting of the Dominion councn of the New Zealand National Party was held in Wellington to-day. The Hon. Adam Hamilton. Leader of the Opposition, was present, and Mr. C. j II Wes "ii preside d. Reports from four divisions disclosed a great increase in membership since the last quarterly meeting. It was reported that in the country districts Ihe farmers were feeling the heavy increase in costs of production, while In the cilfes housewives particularly were becoming apprehensive of further additions tn the cost of living. It was also reported that ttie Leader of the Opposition and members of the Parliamentary Party who had conducted speaking tours had founded great nervousnes in the ranks of the commercial community, all business men. and especially small shopkeepers, being increasingly worried by harassing inspectors and restrict ons. | Arrangements were made for the | forthcoming annual Dominion conference nf the parly, which will he held shortly after Parliament meets. The tentative dale for the conference i# early in September.
