BOXING.
YOUNG GILDO BEATS JARVIS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Tuesday. In a professional boxing bout tonight Young Gildo gained a points decision over Jack Jarvis, after 15 rounds. In the earlier slage-s the contest was dull, and in the thirteenth round the referee, Mr T. Fairhall, asked the men to give more action. Gildo was particularly clever in all departments, but there was not a great deal between the two. RAYNOR OUTPOINTS SHARPE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Blenheim light-weight boxer, Clarrie Rayner, outpointed the Australian professional Jack Sharpe in a 12-round contest at Petone to-night. After each had done his share of forcing in nine rounds, the bout resolved itself into a battle of tactics, with Sharpe looking for a knock-out, and Rayner successfully keeping him at bay, darting in occasionally to land unexpected blows with both hands.
