THE CHINESE CABINET. WAR LOAN OF £5,600,000 LONDON. July 27. The Tokio correspondent of the Daily Telegraph says the Cabinet is raising a war loan of £5.600.000. WOMAN’S SUICIDE. COUNTESS OF CARDIGAN. LONDON, July 27. The coroner returned a verdict that, the Countess of Cardigan committed suicide whilst of unsound mind. Her husband in evidence, stated that the Countess had not quarrelled with him, but had left her home at Oxford on July 22 without stating her destination. A letter from her alarmed him, and he instructed the police to find her. Her mother had committed suicide and the Countess had talked of ending her life similarly.
COMPENSATED PRICE. DAIRY COMPANIES’ SUPPORT. Organisers of the compensating price campaign reported to-day that the Tauranga, Matakana, and Rodney Co-operative Dairy Companies have agreed to assist the campaign by a levy of 1s a ton on produce manufactured by them. Other dairy companies in the province have taken similar action and more are reported to have the matter under consideration.
