WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

AT GLEN MASSEY. The usual meeting of the Glen Massey Women’s Institute was held in the Public Hall, the president, Mrs R. Tan field, presiding over a very good atlendance of members. Final arrangements were made for the annual dance, which was a great success. Two members, Mrs J. K. Brown and Miss N. Brown, who have left the district, were presented with gifts from the members. Hints on bath cleaning brought forth some good ideas. A cooking competition was for peanut brownies and was won by Mrs McCaig, and the written competition was won by Mrs J. Brockett. A very interesting demonstration of tatting was given by Miss Bid Bowen and was much appreciated by members. Hostesses for the day were Mesdames Rowe and A. Bennett, and Misses J. Bowen and E. Fowler. AT MAMAKU. A meeting of the Mamaku Women’s Institute was held in Roes Hall on July 2i and opened with the Institute creed. The president, Miss Rodgers, presided. The motto was: “To-day is the to- | morrow you worried about yesterday.” The competition for baby gowns for Sister Esther was won by Mrs Brown, with Mrs Erickson second. A demonstration of stencilling was given by Mrs F. G. Vowless, all members showing keen interest. Hostesses were Mrs WaJsh, Mrs Flemming and Mrs Marris, who provided afternoon lea. The meeting closed with the Institute song. AT FAIRFIELD. The July meeting of the Fairfield Women's Institute was held recently, Mrs F. Uvnight presiding over a fair attendance of members. The meeting ; opened with the National Anthem, after which two new members were welcomed and correspondence dealt ; with. It was decided to give a donation ■ to tiie Fairfield Beautifying Society. Invitations were received to' t lie Nawton-Rotokauri Women’s Institute ( birthday party. Mrs Treloar gave a most interesting demonstration of flower-making from wood-pulp, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The roll-call, ‘“Uses of Salt," i brought forth many useful replies. The competitions resulted as follows:—Shortbread, Mrs A. Waite; decorated bowl of autumn berries, Mrs W. Graney; hostesses’ competition, Mrs Wells. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Cole, Crookes, Davys and Miss Davies. The competitions for next month will l»c : Roll-call, “A quickly-made pudding,” and a thrift article made from old felt hats.
