Springboks’ Visit
TO-IMORROW’S GAME POSITION OF FULL-BACK. WAITOMO CAVEB VISITED. The filling of the position of fullback for the Combined team in their match against the touring Springboks at Rugby Park to-morrow, consequent on the failure of L. Russell to pass the doctor, has not yet been finalised. The selectors of the King Country and Thames Valley Unions have been communicated with, but a definite decision could not be reached and this afternoon the emergency back, G. Childs, of Thames Valley, is being tried out for the position, an 4 if he satisfies he will be the full-back. The Springboks’ team left this morning for the Waitomo Caves, returning late this afternoon. 'The referee for the match will be Mr A. 11. Malcolm, of Auckland. CONTROL OF TRAFFIC. TO-MORROW’S ARRANGEMENTS. PARKING AREAS ALLOTTED. Although the Complete success of traffic control is contingent on the cooperation of motorists, the authorities in Hamilton have made adequate arrangements for the parking of cars for the Springbok match at (Rugby Park to-morrow. Space will be available on the old No. 4 ground on the northern side of the park with the entrance from Seddon Road. Vehicles will also be parked in the paddock at the corner of Willoughby and Abbotsford Streets which is adjacent to the eastern entrance to the grbund. In addition, if the weather permits, Royes Park will be used but In the event of heavy rain this ground Is likely to become too soft. Parking on Seddon Road from Mill Street to the entrance to Rugby Park is prohibited and also on Abbotsford Street from Willoughby Street. The object of this is to give pedestrians safe' exit from the ground. Motorists proceeding from the ground in a southerly direction are asked to use Seddon Road, King Street or Tainui Street and to travel via Lake Road past the water tower. Visitors coming into Hamilton by the Cambridge Road are requested to avoid Victoria Street and to utilise the Fairfield Bridge. Traffic officers are stressing the need for drivers to keep their cars in single file and not to "double bank” even if a temporary blockage occurs. All streets leading to Bryce Stre'et and Ward SVeet from the Anglesea Street crossing to Victoria Street are to be closed to traffic to-morrow afternoon. CAUGHEY APPROACHED. POSSIBLE TEST SELECTION. (By Telegraph—Pre?* Association ) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. After being approached by four of the New Zealand selectors, T. 11. C. Oaughey, who has represented New Zealand in Rugby football in the Dominion, Britain and Australia, has decided to turn out for the University team on Saturday next. He has not played since last, season, having been on a business trip to America, returning two weeks ago. This will mean that the selectors, if they so desire, will be able to include him among the players to go into training with a view 1 to final selection for the first test in Wellington on August 14. NOT A RECORD. CROWD ON SATURDAY. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. According to information supplied by the Auckland Rugby Union the attendance at the match last Saturday was 37.800, and the gate-takings amounted to £4200. On official figures a crowd of 45,250 watched tlie test match between the All Blacks and the British team, in 1930, this being a record for any football game in the Dominion.
