Sir Ernest Davis, Mayor of Auckland. returned to Auckland by the Mariposa yesterday after a holiday visit to Australia.
Sir Charles Marr, a member of the Australian Federal Parliament, arrived at Auckland by the Mariposa yesterday from Sydney.
The resignation of Mr B. H. Andrews from the presidency of the Frankton Citizens’ Association was received with regret at a meeting of the association executive held last evening.
Mr. -G. -C. Rodda, Secretary of the Treasury, who was a member of the Hon. W. Nash’s trade delegation to England, left Southampton on July 9 by the Mataroa, which is due at Auckland on August 12.
Mr A. T. Donnelly, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand, returned to Auckland by the Monowai yesterday after a holiday visit to Honolulu. He left for the south by train last night. Mr. J. Beresford Clark, director of tho British Broadcasting Corporation Empire service, was a through passenger by the Mariposa from Sydney to Suva yesterday. He will return to New Zealand shortly. Following the resignation of Mr Ivo Grice, now residing in Morrinsville, as a member of the Te Aroha Borough Council, Mr F. T. Halligan has been appointed in his place', the council having adopted the procedure authorised under the Act. which gives power to make an appointment should t vacancy occur within twelve months of the next municipal election. Rektor L. Zilliacus, chairman of the executive board of the New Education Fellowship. Dr. I*. L. Dengler. director of the Austro-Amerlcan Institute of Education in Vienna, and Mr G. I’. llankin. representative of the English Educati n. who havo boon attending meetings of the conference of the fellowship In New Zealand, will leave Auckland by the Monowai for Sydney to-day to attend meetings In Australia.
